Site Rules
Safety & Site Expectations
The safety of our employees, contractors, customers, and visitors is our highest priority.
Everyone entering the terminal is responsible for working safely and following these site
rules.
Stop Work Authority
Every worker, contractor, and visitor has the authority and responsibility to stop work if an
unsafe condition or unsafe act is observed.
1. Site Access
- All visitors and contractors must report to the office before entering the terminal.
- Sign in upon arrival and sign out before leaving.
- Visitors must be accompanied by an authorized terminal representative unless otherwise approved.
- Unauthorized persons are prohibited from entering operational areas.
2. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Minimum PPE: CSA-approved hard hat, safety boots, high-visibility clothing, safety glasses, and task-appropriate gloves.
- Additional PPE (hearing protection, PFD, respirator, etc.) must be worn where required.
- Personnel working within 3 metres of the water's edge or on barges must wear an approved Personal Flotation Device (PFD).
3. Speed Limits & Traffic
- Maximum speed on site is 15 km/h.
- Follow all posted traffic signs.
- Yield to heavy equipment at all times.
- Use designated walkways where available.
- Park only in designated areas.
4. Smoking, Alcohol & Drugs
- Smoking and vaping are permitted only in designated areas.
- Alcohol and illegal drugs are prohibited.
- Anyone suspected of impairment will be removed from site.
5. Mobile Phones
- Do not use mobile phones while operating vehicles or equipment.
- Use phones only in safe designated areas.
6. Loading & Unloading Operations
- Stay clear of active loading zones unless authorized.
- Never stand beneath suspended loads.
- Follow directions from terminal personnel.
- Keep clear of cranes, loaders, forklifts, excavators, and moving equipment.
7. Barge Operations
- Only authorized personnel may board barges.
- Maintain three points of contact when boarding.
- Use designated gangways whenever available.
- Do not jump between vessels, docks, or barges.
- Secure loads before transport.
- Follow all instructions from the Barge Superintendent or Loading Supervisor.
8. Housekeeping
- Keep access routes clear.
- Clean up spills immediately.
- Dispose of waste in designated containers.
- Store tools and materials safely.
9. Environmental Protection
- Report all spills immediately.
- Do not dump waste into the water.
- Use spill kits where required.
- Follow all environmental procedures.
10. Emergency Procedures
- Report all injuries, incidents, near misses, and property damage immediately.
- Know the locations of first aid kits, fire extinguishers, spill kits, and the muster point.
- Follow directions from emergency responders or terminal personnel.
- Emergency Services: 911
11. Contractors
- Complete site orientation before beginning work.
- Provide safe work procedures where required.
- Supply required PPE.
- Coordinate work with terminal management.
- Obtain approval for hot work, confined space entry, or work at heights.
12. Visitors
- Wear required PPE.
- Remain with your host.
- Stay within approved areas.
- Follow all instructions from terminal personnel.
13. General Rules
- No horseplay.
- No firearms or weapons.
- No pets.
- No unauthorized photography or drone use.
- Respect all posted signs and barriers.
- Report unsafe conditions immediately.
- If unsure—STOP and ask.
